As a farming country, the Philippines has always been a huge exporter of rice to neighboring countries and beyond. Over the past decade, the need for organic and natural food has increased. The Department of Agriculture with its regional offices held the 16th National Organic Agriculture Congress (NOAC) in Region IV-A, Cavite, at Camp Benjamin, last November 12 to 15, 2019.
Onward and upward goes the organic agriculture movement in the Philippines. The theme for this year’s National Organic Agriculture Congress is “OA 4K: Organikong Agrikultura sa Kumikitang Kabuhayan para sa Kalusugan at Kapaligiran”. The event was attended by delegates from the Department of Agriculture, local government units, and organic agriculture advocates and enthusiasts from all over the country.
Department of Agriculture Secretary William Dar graced the event and gave the keynote speech for the event. He expressed his full support for the organic agriculture efforts done by the LGUs and enthusiasts, reminding them of the department’s mantra: Masaganang ani, mataas na kita. With booths set up along the halls of The Center at Camp Benjamin, local farm companies were able to showcase their organic products for the delegates to appreciate and purchase.
Plenary sessions for Korean Natural Farming and Farm Tourism happened on the first day, while the breakout sessions for marketing, organic technologies, research, and policy took place the following day. WIN Farm, the organic and natural partner of Camp Benjamin, has put the destination on the organic agriculture trail. The farm garnered rave reviews from farming advocates and enthusiasts who attended the 16th NOAC.
